Strong Finishes for Both Football and Volleyball!

Grace Athletics had a successful fall with strong finishes for both the Varsity Football team and the Girls' Varsity Volleyball team!

The Girls' Varsity Volleyball team finished the regular season undefeated, earning the title of Frontier League champions!  The Lancers went on to win in the first round of playoffs in four sets and then losing in the second round. A huge congratulations to head coach, Kristen Behrens, for earning the prestigious title of Coach of the Year! The entire Grace team made either first or second team or honorable mention!  Making first team was Logan Burns, Sami Nehme and Izzy Fraser.  Making second team was Elinor Saunders and Jordan Riemer with honorable mentions going to Ava Depow, Brenna Bakker, and Sarah Richardson. Congratualtions to the entire team!  We are so proud of  your diligence, hard work and character, all for the glory of God.

The Lancers Varsity Football Team finished the season strong with an overall record of 7-4, finishing 3-0 in league and earning the title of Citrus Coast League Champions. Although they lost in their first playoff game, this season represents one of grit and growth. Head Coach Tom Coate says this team has been "truly special. Led by an incredible senior class who helped rebuild the program from their freshman year, the entire team embraced our mantra inspired by our theme verse Philippians 1:6, which is focusing on finishing strong. This team embodied that in every way. They worked tirelessly, grew together, and consistently finished strong no matter the challenge. Their unity, grit, and faith have been the foundation of everything we accomplished this season and I couldn't be prouder of them!"

The Lancers quarterback, Senior Ethan LaSecla, made headlines this season for leading the state with 4,157 yards of total offense.  LaSecla finished his senior season with 2,253 yards and 23 trouchdowns passing and 1,853 yards and 30 TDs rushing. The VC Star highlighted LaSecla in an online article that described the fleet-footed, 5-foot-10 quarterback as falling just "147 yards rushing away from joining Kahili Tate of Gardena-Serra (2015) ad William Augenstein of San Jose-Branham as the third player in state history to oth rush and pass for 2,000 yards in a single season" but that LaSecla's place in Ventura County history is secure since he is the first county quarterback to rush and pass for 3,000 yards in his career. In the same VC Article, Coach Coate says of LaSecla, "He's a generational player.  I'l probably never have the pleasure to coach another athlete like that in my life." The entire staff and faculty of Grace congratulate you, Ethan, for your perserverance and commitment to helping your team thrive this season. Well done and may the Lord bless all your future endeavors.
