Theatre Arts

Theatre Arts at Grace is a highly competitive and award-winning program. Students of every age and interest level are encouraged to come and see why the Theatre Arts department is one of the most thrilling programs on any campus!

Over the years, the Grace Theatre Arts program has produced some of the most engaging productions in Ventura County. Each academic year Grace's theatre department has seen major nominations from the Jerry Herman and National Youth Awards for the Theatre Arts program. From fall plays to spring musicals, theatre camps, workshops, and classes, there is always something happening on any of the Grace campuses.

Recent High School productions include “Newsies," "Our Town" and "Fiddler on the Roof."

Elementary productions in the fall offer special opportunities for students to gain theatrical experience, with recent productions of "The Lion King" and "Frozen Jr." delighting audiences of all ages.

Here at Grace, we encourage our students to develop as artists, as well as men and women of God. We want our students to be able to find their voice so that they can impact society through ministry.

Elementary

Grace AFTER SCHOOL Musical Theatre Workshop

In our after-school elementary theatre program, we teach students how to develop and improve creative skills through a variety of theatre experiences and performances. We give students opportunities to apply their imaginations in theatre activities to perform with self-confidence, participate collaboratively, and enhance problem-solving abilities. We believe that developing Godly character and excellence in our younger kids through the arts and creative learning helps them to develop into well-balanced students.

If you attended any of our previous productions including, Frozen Kids, The Lion King Kids, Aladdin Kids, Annie Kids, The Music Man, or The Jungle Book, you know you are in for a treat for the Fall 2024 performance of SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL!

The program is an instructional musical theater workshop emphasizing musical/vocal training, acting, and choreography for grades 3rd through 6th culminating in a theater production.

Jr High Theatre Arts
In this junior high period, individual development is key. Each year’s courses provide students with opportunities for growth in concentration, sensory awareness, imagination, physical awareness, speech, emotion, and genuine presence. Courses mirror students’ natural development in the passage from childhood into adolescence— helping them discover their resources, explore their environment, and display a sensitivity to others who share it—thus making this program an essential Middle School art experience. Sr High Theatre Arts
During these four years, our rich electives and co-curriculars encourage students to dig deep and find their voices to express themselves creatively. At the same time, our programs require students to cultivate a variety of personal resources and academic skills: listening, concentration, physical flexibility, emotional self-awareness, openness to others, critical reading skills and analysis, problem-solving, etc. At the core of the work is the development of the dramatic imagination, learning that is unique to the dramatic arts. Technical Theatre
Tech theatre is a high school program that prepares individuals to apply artistic, technical, and dramatic principles and techniques to the communication of dramatic information, ideas, moods, and feelings through technical theatre methods. This class includes instruction in set design, lighting design, sound effects, theatre acoustics, scene painting, costume design, technical direction and production, and the use of computer applications to support these functions. The most celebrated of all the Sherlock Holmes mysteries comes to life in this exciting adaptation of the classic mystery story. Spooky moments abound throughout the evening, as Grace School brings The Hound of the Baskervilles to thrilling life this October.

World-renowned detective Sherlock Holmes and his colleague Dr Watson are asked to unravel the mystery surrounding the untimely death of Sir Charles Baskerville. Dealing with constant misdirection, a staff that is less than helpful, and a gigantic hound all at once, Holmes and Watson must uncover the mystery of the Baskerville line before it’s too late!

Newsies (Spring 2023)

Our Town (Fall 2022)

Grace Junior/Senior High presented its first-ever revival production as director David Carter celebrated his tenth year at Grace, bringing back Our Town to the stage for the first time since 2012. A timeless staple of the American theater, Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece is a story of family, love, loss, and hope. The show was a fantastic success, highlighting the talents of many rising stars including Jassir Rivera-Hawit, Haven Prosperi, Sophia Kaprelian, Hannah Mendez, Troy Winkler, Davis Johnson, Joshua Jackson, and others. Thank you to director David Carter and producer Christie Ebinhoch, and congratulations to the cast and crew!

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

Set in Depression-era Times Square, Guys and Dolls is about a couple of big city gamblers and the women who love them. It tells the overlapping stories of high-roller Sky Masterson, who falls in love with mission worker Sarah Brown, and lovable rapscallion Nathan Detroit, engaged for 14 years to Miss Adelaide, a headliner at the Hot Box Club.

Based on the classic novel, Les Misérables, by Victor Hugo, and the classic Broadway stage show of the same name, Les Misérables is the story of Jean Valjean, a prisoner who breaks parole, and the police inspector, Javert, who tries to hunt him down for breaking parole.
